Today's Reading
- Monday, February 2 : Book of Malachi 3,1-4.
Thus says the Lord God: Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me; and suddenly there will come to the temple the Lord whom you seek, and the messenger of the covenant whom you desire. Yes, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who will endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when he appears? For he is like the refiner's fire, or like the fuller's lye. He will sit refining and purifying (silver), and he will purify the sons of Levi, Refining them like gold or like silver that they may offer due sacrifice to the LORD. Then the sacrifice of Judah and Jerusalem will please the LORD, as in days of old, as in years gone by.
Today's Bible Verse
- Today's Verse - Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
So many times the evil one seduces us into a flat, 2-dimensional Christianity - going to church and doing good things. However, God calls us to a three-dimensional faith - one that involves our heart, soul, and strength (body). He wants us to love him with all of our heart, all our inner being, and all of our actions used mightily for him. God wants us completely aligned with his ways, his character, his compassion, and his faithfulness in every facet of our being.
Hear, O [people of God]: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Yes! Three-dimensional faith. Three-dimensional discipleship.My Prayer...
Dear Heavenly Father, I honor you as God Almighty. I appreciate all the kindness and blessings you have lavished on me. I love you because you first loved me in Jesus. I honor you as the universe's Creator and greatest power. I am humbled by the sacrificial and redemptive love you have shared with me in Jesus. I worship you with all I am - heart, soul, and strength - because you are worthy of my worship. Father, my heart desires to demonstrate my love, respect, appreciation, and worship for you in all I love, am, and do. I offer this prayer to you, dear Father, in the mighty name and through the intercession of Jesus. Amen.

Today's "Passion for Praise"
- Unless the LORD Had Helped Me (Feb. 1st)
Unless the LORD had helped me, I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out, "I am slipping!" but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me.
Today's "What Jesus Did!"
- 'Do Whatever He Tells You!' - John 2:5-8
But [Jesus'] mother told the servants [at a wedding celebration when the wine ran out], "Do whatever he tells you."
Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." When the jars had been filled, he said, "Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies." So the servants followed his instructions.
Key Thought
"Do whatever he tells you," Mary told the servants. Her voice rings out over the centuries. The servants' example of obedience transcends water turning into wine at an ancient wedding. [1] When we do what Jesus tells us to do, even if we don't understand why he asks it, we get to see God's glory. Sure, this story is about a wedding and a hugely embarrassing wine shortage. Mainly, however, it's about Jesus doing greater things, better things, than we can do or even imagine. So let's do what he tells us. The words of Jesus that John will share with us will not be just good advice, but they will be "spirit and life." [2] Let's listen not only with our ears; let's listen with our lives.

[2] John 6:63.Today's Prayer
Father, give me eyes to see and ears to hear what Jesus tells me to do. I want to be courageous enough to live up to what he asks of me. I want to be willing to do WHATEVER he tells me, even if I don't understand it. Empower me with your Spirit to that kind of faith and courage. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's "Together in Christ"
- 'One Before Creation!' - John17:5
[Jesus prayed,] "Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began."
—John17:5 NLT
Key Thought
Jesus emphasized that He and the Father are one. Jesus told people that those who saw Him were seeing God. [1] In Jesus' prayer shortly before His death, He wanted His closest followers to hear that this oneness and this identity He shared with God had always existed and always will. Jesus is the great "I AM" that came to us in human flesh to reveal God to us. [2]
Why is this important?
There are many reasons, practical and theological, for recognizing that Jesus on earth was Immanuel, God with us! [3] For this year-long focus on holy relationships, Jesus' oneness with the Father is essential for at least three reasons:
- Jesus showed us how much God loves us and all He will do to help us. [4]
- Jesus' oneness with God affirms again what Genesis chapters 1 and 2 emphasize to us: God always lives in the relationship of Father, Son, and Spirit, and God made us in His image for us to live in relationships. [5]
- Jesus wants us to share and experience God - Father, Son, and Spirit - in our lives with the same oneness that He shared with the Father when He was on the earth and has shared for all eternity. [6] The LORD wants us to know that once we are His true followers, we are never alone. God comes to live with us and in us and makes His home with us. [7]
Bottom line: We are not created to live life alone, so God chooses to be with us. We learn to build relationships with others from our relationship with God and based upon God's example and teaching. Because God has always existed in a relationship as Father, Son, and Spirit, He wants to fill our lives with relationships that are meaningful and eternal and are a blessing to us and others.

Almighty God, we believe you have eternally existed as the great "I AM" as You proclaimed:
"I am the Alpha and the Omega - the beginning and the end... the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come - the Almighty One." [A]
We believe that You have adopted us as Your children and You have "sent the Spirit of [Your] Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, 'Abba, Father.'" [B] Thank you for inviting us into this relationship with You and all You are. Bless me, please, as I seek to live out my identity as a person made for relationships created in Your image. Empower me, dear Father, to live with love toward others guided by Your Spirit to be like Jesus. [C] Amen.
